NoBonk is an experimental awareness aid. Its on-device camera analysis can suggest possible people or obstacles, but it can miss hazards or give false alerts. It is not a safety device or a replacement for looking up.
Camera frames and motion-sensor readings are processed in memory. NoBonk does not save photos or video, upload frames or history, or include accounts, advertising or analytics. The app does not request Internet or microphone permission. Android detection can continue in a user-started camera service while another app is open; Stop ends that scanning session.
NoBonk stores settings, your safety acknowledgment, update-prompt preferences and a measured processing-provider choice in private local storage. Foreground scanning can store alert events: time, detected object type, approximate distance, alert level and approach status. This history is encrypted with an Android Keystore-managed key. Background scanning currently does not add history events.
Use Clear history to remove event records and their optional location tags; the app reports a deletion failure. Settings can be changed in the app. Uninstalling removes the app's local data. Backup and transfer rules exclude private history and preferences in the reviewed release.
The manual-scanning 1.0.23 release and the 1.0.24 guide update do not include walking reminders or request Physical activity permission. Earlier test builds offered an experimental walking mode. This does not turn on in current releases.
Location tagging is off by default. If you enable it and grant approximate-location permission, an event can include a coarse location for the local history map. No precise-location permission is requested. You can disable tagging or clear history at any time.
Optional voice alerts give your phone's text-to-speech service a short phrase such as “Person on your left. Look up.” The phrase does not contain camera imagery or location. That service is separate software and may use its own network connection and privacy policy. Voice is off by default.
NoBonk uses Google Play's in-app update library to ask the Play Store whether a newer version is available. Google Play handles availability, download and installation under Google's policies. Camera frames, alert history and location are not part of that request. You can dismiss an update suggestion; installing an update requires your action.
NoBonk is intended for ages 13 and older. Joining the optional tester group happens on Google Groups, where your Google account is used to manage test access. Sending support email or opening a GitHub issue shares the information you choose to include with those services and the project maintainers. Please leave personal details out of public issues.
The Android 1.0.24 video guide is bundled with the app and plays offline. It does not record you. Opening it stops scanning; returning does not restart the camera.
Send feedback in Settings stops scanning and prepares a draft in your chosen email app. Device details are included unless you untick them. No camera images, history or location are attached. You review and send the draft yourself. Your email provider handles delivery, and support receives the message and sender address to investigate and reply.
